Pledge for Greener Arbitrations

Patrick has tak­en the Green Pledge. As an arbi­tra­tion prac­ti­tion­er com­mit­ted to ensur­ing that he min­imis­es the envi­ron­men­tal impact of his prac­tice, Patrick com­mits to:

  • Cre­at­ing a work­space with a reduced envi­ron­men­tal foot­print by seek­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties to reduce ener­gy con­sump­tion and waste;
  • Cor­re­spond­ing elec­tron­i­cal­ly, unless hard copy cor­re­spon­dence is specif­i­cal­ly required in the cir­cum­stances, recog­nis­ing that e‑mail has a car­bon footprint;
  • Encour­ag­ing the use of video con­fer­enc­ing facil­i­ties as an alter­na­tive to trav­el (includ­ing for the pur­pos­es of con­duct­ing fact find­ing or wit­ness interviews);
  • Avoid­ing print­ing, encour­ag­ing the use of elec­tron­ic rather than hard copies of doc­u­ments and pro­mot­ing the use of elec­tron­ic bun­dles at hearings;
  • Using, where pos­si­ble, sup­pli­ers and ser­vice providers that are com­mit­ted to reduc­ing their envi­ron­men­tal foot­print (includ­ing for the pur­pos­es of con­duct­ing an arbi­tra­tion hearing);
  • Con­sid­er­ing or propos­ing, where appro­pri­ate, that wit­ness­es or experts give evi­dence via video con­fer­enc­ing facil­i­ties, rather than attend hear­ings in person;
  • Avoid­ing unnec­es­sary trav­el and using video­con­fer­enc­ing facil­i­ties as an alternative;
  • Con­sid­er­ing and ques­tion­ing the need to fly and off­set­ting car­bon emis­sions for all arbi­tra­tion-relat­ed travel.
